Ski 1 Star

The second lesson in our Learn to Ski Course. . This 2 hour, group lesson will take you through the next steps of becoming a skier.

COVID SECURE
All paricipants must wear a face covering when in the kit room and only lesson participants will be allowed in the kit room. Kit up time is included in the lesson time however please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your lesson start time. To allow for required distancing, our lesson schedule is very precise with little room for movement. Late arrivals may not be able to join the lesson. Social distance will be maintained between instructor and participants at all times. It is expected that participants will socially distance from other slope and session users not from their household and failure to do so may result in being asked to leave the lesson. Please keep accompanying spectators to as few people as possible.

Is it right for me?

This lesson is for those who have recently completed their Try Skiing lesson. It is a 2 hour group lesson for adults and children over the age of 8 and is part of ourLearn to Ski Course. .

How does it work?

Our experienced, qualified instructors will meet you in our equipment room and get you kitted out with skis, boots and a helmet. Equipment is always included in our prices - you'll just need to bring a pair of gloves and wear full length sleeves and trousers. You'll move out onto the slope and quickly recap the Try skiing lesson whilst getting warmed up. You'll start learning to control your speed on some short, gentle descents of the slope. Once you're safely in control of your speed, your instructor will start introducing you to using the lift to progress further up the slope and begin initiating turns.

What comes next?

Once you have nailed all the skills of the 1 Star lesson, you are ready to move onto the 2 Star!
FAQ's

No. We cannot allow teaching on our slope by anyone other than our qualified, employed and insured instructors. We will ask your whole party to leave the slope if seen to be teaching someone who cannot ski or snowboard.

Not for lessons but if you are just using our slope for recreational skiing or snowboarding, you are welcome to bring your own kit. However, Mendip cannot accept responsibility for any damage caused by our slope. Equipment hire is always included in the cost so we would always recommend using our ski's and boards but you are welcome to bring your own boots, helmets and pads if you prefer. There is no discount available for bringing your equipment.

All of our activities, sessions and lessons do need to be booked in advance. Everything can be booked online, via our website.

All of our snowsport lesson times include kit up and de-kit so you just need to arrive 5 - 10 minutes before your session time to check in and complete some paperwork.

It is really tricky to tell what level lesson would be suitable for you if you have previous experience as it will be different for everyone. We would recommend booking a private lesson so our instructors can coach and advise which level of group lesson is best for you.

Our group ski and snowboard lessons will only ever have a maximum of 8 people per instructor.

Private lessons can have up to 8 people (age 8+).

Minis group lessons will have a maximum of 4 people per instructor. Minis private lessons are for a maximum of 2 people (ages 5 - 8).

All slope users must wear a helmet whilst on the slope. We always include helmet hire at no additional charge. Gloves must be worn whilst on the slope, please bring these with you or they are available for purchase onsite.

Group lessons are a great way to learn and are the most cost-efficient way to learn, especially with our Learn to Ski and Learn to Snowboard courses.

If you decide group lessons aren't for you, we also offer private snowsport lessons. Click here for private ski lessons and click here for private snowboard lessons.

General FAQ's

This ranges depending on the activity...

Tobogganing is available for ages 4+

Skiing is available for ages 5+

Snowboarding is for ages 8+ (but must also have at least a size 2 feet and be 1.2m tall)

Frisbee Golf does not have an age restriction and under 6's play for free

Our outdoor activity sessions can be run in two ways, with different minimum ages:

If you are booking individual spaces on an activity session, the minimum age is 8.

You are also able to book a session privately just for your group. If you book the session exclusively we can relax the age restriction to include children aged 6 or 7. At least one adult must take part and be included in the group if there is anyone taking part under the age of 8.

As an outdoor activity centre we go ahead whatever the weather! The only exception to this rule is lightning directly over the centre, which we monitor very closely. Make sure you bring a change of clothes if it's raining, wrap up warm if it's windy, and drink plenty of fluids if it's hot. Make an adventure of it!!!

All of our activity sites have plenty of parking onsite. Parking is free of charge.

We are very fortunate to be situated in such a stunning location set in the Mendip hills. Unfortunately, this does come with its limitations. We currently only have stair access to our slopes and cafe, and the paths leading to our onsite activities can be fairly muddy and uneven.

Pushchairs/wheelchairs/mobility scooters may struggle depending on what part of the centre they are trying to access. We are always happy to try and help where we can so please do give us a call to discuss your individual requirements.

You will receive a confirmation email from us once your booking has been made. Sometimes this email can end up in your junk folder, so please check there first if you can't find it.

If you can't find a confirmation email, your online booking may not have been fully completed - please check whether the session you were trying to book is still available online. If it is, please try to make the booking again. If it's not, please contact us so that we can check what's happened.
