Yes! Twilight Tobogganing is designed to bring the whole family into the Christmas magic, from children aged 4+ to teenagers and adults.

This isn't a Father Christmas meet-and-greet experience. Instead, it's about doing something together: racing down the toboggan slope beneath thousands of fairy lights, following the festive woodland trail, toasting s'mores around the fire and sharing some proper family time.

That makes it a great Christmas activity for families with a mix of ages - including older children, teenagers and "big kids" who may have outgrown more traditional Santa experiences. No one is too old for this Christmas magic!

Twilight Tobogganing takes place at Mendip Activity Centre in North Somerset (BS25 5PQ), our permanent year-round activity centre.

Unlike a temporary pop-up Christmas attraction, we have established facilities on site, including a solid car park, proper toilets and our Alpine Lounge cafe-bar.

That means you can enjoy the festive experience without worrying about muddy field parking or temporary toilet facilities, even in typical winter weather.

Not quite. A traditional light trail is something you walk through. Twilight Tobogganing is something you do. Rather than simply walking past the Christmas lights, you're part of the adventure.

You'll still experience thousands of twinkling fairy lights, a woodland trail, a crackling fire and hot chocolate, but you'll also get 30 minutes of festive tobogganing before heading into the woods to toast s'mores and enjoy sparklers.

It's an ideal alternative to a traditional Christmas light trail for families looking for something active, memorable and a little bit different this Christmas.

Twilight Tobogganing prices vary depending on the date and time you visit.

For the best-value sessions, look at midweek dates in November. Term-time weekdays generally cost less throughout the season, while the first sessions of the day on weekends and during the school holidays are usually cheaper than peak early-evening sessions.

If you're flexible on when you visit, checking a few different dates and times is the best way to find our lowest-priced Twilight Tobogganing sessions.

Twilight Tobogganing includes lights, music, snow effects and other festive sights and sounds. We know it can be helpful to understand these in advance if someone in your group has sensory sensitivities.

The fairy lights around the toboggan slope twinkle but do not flash or strobe. There is festive background music, and during the final 10 minutes of the tobogganing session there are countdown announcements introduced by a horn sound effect.

Our snow machine operates approximately every five minutes for less than a minute at a time and only covers part of the slope.

The woodland campfire area is calmer, with fairy lights and gentle festive music. There will be two crackling, log fires. An instructor will be present to assist with the fires.

For a quieter experience, we'd recommend an earlier session. Daylight sessions have a less intense lighting effect and early sessions tend to be quieter.

An exclusive half-slope session has up to eight participants in your group. If both halves are booked separately, another private group may be using the other side of the slope at the same time. Individual sessions can have up to 10 children taking part, plus their supervising adults.

If you'd like to understand any part of the experience before booking, please get in touch and our team will be happy to help.

Tobogganers must wear full-length sleeves, full-length trousers, covered footwear (no flip flops or crocs) and a pair of full-fingered gloves whilst on the slope. Gloves are available to purchase in reception if required.

There is a light sprinkler system on the slope so you could get a little damp even if it's not raining. We will go ahead in all weather conditions so dress for the weather and consider layers in case you get too hot.

We encourage you to bring a reusable mug for your hot chocolate if you'd like to help us reduce single-use waste, but this is completely optional.

Our cafe-bar, the Alpine Lounge, is open every day from 9am to 9pm* during Twilight Tobogganing. Last food orders are one hour before closing time.

The Twilight Tobogganing experience lasts around one hour, with your mulled wine and mince pie afterwards. If you're booked onto a later evening session and would like a meal, we recommend eating before your activity.

*The Alpine Lounge will close at 5pm on the 20th December, 24th December and 31st December.

Yes. We can cater for most dietary requirements, with gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free alternatives available for the s'mores and hot chocolate at the campfire.

If you have a severe allergy within your group, please contact us before your visit so our team can advise you.

Yes! Twilight Tobogganing runs throughout the Christmas holidays and is open between Christmas and New Year.

For the 2026 festive season, Twilight Tobogganing runs from 6th November 2026 until 3rd January 2027, closing only on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Because Twilight Tobogganing isn't centred around meeting Father Christmas, the experience is just as magical after Christmas Day as it is in early November. It's a great way to get everyone out of the house and enjoy some family time together between Christmas and New Year.

A Twilight Tobogganing session also makes a brilliant Christmas present or family experience gift to enjoy during the school holidays.

You are more than welcome to bring your group - whether it is a school group, Scouts, Cubs, Guides, Cadets, a sports team or any other youth group - to Twilight Tobogganing. Bookings can be made online.
We are unable to make any exceptions to our numbers for Twilight Tobogganing sessions.

We have exclusive offers available for schools and education groups during term time, weekday hours and in the New Year period.
